Second Conditional: приклади та вправи
Second Conditional (друге умовне речення) використовується, коли ми говоримо про умови, які неправдоподібні чи малоймовірні в нашому сучасному часі. Ми використовуємо його, щоб розмовляти про те, що могло б відбутися, якби умова була іншою. Форма Second Conditional виглядає наступним чином: “If + Past Simple, Would + Verb (без to).” Наприклад, “If I had more free time, I would travel the world.”
Речення такого типу завжди складаються з двох частин: умови та результату.
If I saw a spider, I would cry.
Для утворення Second Conditional існує певна схема:
if + past simple, …would + infinitive
If I won the lottery, I would buy a big house.
Після I/he/she/it ми часто використовуємо не was, а were.
If I were you, I would buy this dress.
Замість would можуть використовуватись could, should або might.
If I won a lottery, I could buy a big house.
В Second Conditional частини речення можу мінятися місцями. Сенс речення від цього не зміниться.
I would study another language if I had more time.
If I had more time, I would study another language.
Приклади використання Second Conditional
1. У цьому вислові використано для вираження умови, яка вважається малоймовірною в данний момент, але дозволяє висловити бажання чи мрію.
If I won the lottery, I would go on a trip around the world. (Якщо я виграв лотерею, я б відправився в подорож навколо світу)
2. Цей приклад вказує на можливість поліпшення ситуації в разі зміни умови (більше вивчення), але залишається у межах умовності.
If she had studied more, she would have passed the exams more easily. (Якщо вона вивчала більше, вона б здавала іспити легше.)
3. У цьому вислові використовується для вираження неправдоподібного в минулому, що могло б вплинути на результат (попередній виїзд на поїзд).
If they had arrived in time, we would have caught the train. (Якби вони приїхали на час, ми б встигли на поїзд.)
