Intensifiers

Для усиления прилагательных мы используем такие слова как very, really и extremely.

e.g. She is a very beautiful girl.

                That is an extremely interesting experiment.

                 We are really close friends.

Данные слова называются intensifiers. К ним также относятся amazingly, exceptionally, incredibly, remarkably, particularly, unusually . Они обычно ставятся перед прилагательными.

e.g. He is incredibly talented.

К intensifiers также относится enough, но ставится уже после прилагательного.

e.g. Are you old enough to buy alcohol?

НО! Существуют прилагательные, перед которыми нельзя использовать very. Это, так называемые, сильные прилагательные, которые несут более сильную эмоциональную окраску. (e.g. big – huge). Данные прилагательные уже несут в себе понятие «очень» и поэтому very с ними употреблять нельзя. С сильными прилагательными обычно используются absolutely, completely, totally, utterly, really, exceptionally, particularly, quite.

e.g. The children are really filthy.

                He was absolutely thrilled.

·         Со сравнительной степенью прилагательных мы используем much, far, a lot, quite a lot, a great deal, a good deal, a good bit, a fair bit.

·         С превосходной степенью сравнения прилагательных мы используем easily, by far, much.
