Past Simple vs Present Perfect

Past Simple и Present Perfect  это два времени, которые часто вызывают затруднения у студентов.

Past Simple описывает действие, которое произошло в прошлом и не имеет связи с настоящим.

Present Perfect  описывает действие, начавшееся в прошлом и происходящее до настоящего времени или законченное действие, влияющее на настоящее.



  Past Simple Present Perfect

Ved, V2

e.g. Yesterday I read a book.

 have +Ved/V3

e.g. I have read this book twice.

has +Ved/V3

e.g. She has read this book twice.

didn’t + V

e.g. I didn’t read a book yesterday.

 haven’t + Ved/V3

e.g. I haven’t read this book.

hasn’t + Ved/V3

e.g. She hasn’t read this book.


Did ….V

e.g. Did you read a book yesterday?

Have … Ved/V3

e.g. Have you read this book? – Yes, I have/No, I haven’t.

Has …. Ved/V3

e.g. Has he read this book? – Yes, he has./No, he hasn’t.




Past Simple Present Perfect

1.Действие, произошедшее в определенный момент в прошлом. Время известно или указано.

e.g. They had dinner at 7 o’clock.

1. Действие, произошедшее в неопределенный  момент в прошлом.  Нам не важно, когда произошло действие, нам важен результат.

e.g. They have had dinner.

2. Действие произошло, и промежуток времени уже закончился.(lastmonth, lastyear

e.g. We saw our parents last week.

2. Действие произошло, но промежуток времени еще не закончился.(this month, today, this year)

e.g. We’ve seen our parents this week.

3. Действие началось и закончилось в прошлом.

e.g. I was married for 10 years but now I’m divorced.

3. Действие началось в прошлом и продолжается до сих пор.

e.g. I have been married for 10 years.

4. Действия, происходящие одно за другим.

e.g. She locked the door and put the key into her bag. 

4. Действие, описывающее наш опыт или его отсутствие.

e.g. She’s written him so many letters.



   Exercise 1.

Choose the correct word.

1)      Last week I lost/have lost my passport and had to/have had to go to the police.

2)      Karen visited/has visited Beijing 3 times.

3)      The children were/have been very busy last week and didn’t play/haven’t played at all.

4)      I didn’t see/haven’t seen the film but I read/have read the book.

5)      My mom visited/has visited Tbilisi when she studied/has studied at University.

6)      Boys built/have built a tree house yesterday.

7)      They cleaned/have cleaned the car. It looks so nice.

   Exercise 2.

Complete with the verb in correct form.
