have to vs must.

Have to и must – это модальные глаголы, которые обозначают обязанность что-то сделать и переводятся «должен, приходится». Во многих ситуациях эти глаголы синонимичны и могут заменять друг друга.

Но есть и различия.

Must – носит более личный характер и используется для выражения наших личных ощущений.

e.g. I must do it myself.

Have to – имеет безличный характер и используется, когда мы говорим о законах и правилах.

e.g. In Britain you have to drive on the left.

• После must и have to используется инфинитив без частички to.

                e.g. I must buy him a present.

                        You have to pay this bill.

• Глагол must используется только в настоящем времени. Во всех остальных временах используется have to.

e.g. I had to buy him a present.(Past Simple)

       I’ll have to do that.(Fututre)

• Синонимом have to в разговорной речи является have got to.

e.g. I have to go.

       I’ve got to go.

Отрицательные формы глаголов must и have to имеют совершенно различные значения.

Mustn’t – обозначает строгий запрет и переводится нельзя.

e.g. You mustn’t smoke in here.

Don’t have to используется, когда мы говорим о том, что не нужно что-то делать, так как в этом нет никакой необходимости.

e.g. You don’t have to pay. It’s free.
